Scottsdale Private Golf Courses | November News and Updates

Greetings Scottsdale Private Golf Courses! I know this message will put you in a great frame of mind to play golf at Scottsdale Private Golf Courses , as it is only supposed to get to a high of 88 degrees today. I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about some of our younger players’ achievements over the last few months as these players are developing nicely.

• Mason Quagliata won his age division in the drive, chip and putt before the Masters Golf Tournament last April in Augusta, Georgia.

• Jonathan Curran won a Hurricane junior golf tournament with rounds in the 60’s, and has been getting some attention from college coaches for his improved play.

• Jackson Whisenhunt was selected to the AGA Goldwater team against the SWSPGA professionals, which is an annual all star competition at Phoenix Country Club.

• Sisters, Brantlee and Bree Howard, had fun this summer as Brantlee made her first hole-in-one at ten years old and younger sister, Bree, advanced in her age group in the drive, chip and putt regionals.

It is nice to see these players working on their games, as well as being good students. I actually had some proud moments this summer as a student of mine over the last two years, Hayden Wood from Oklahoma State University was the medalist in this year’s Men’s US Amateur Championship at Riviera and Bel Air in California, setting the all time low 2-round total at 9 under par.

Please see the additional information regarding the overseeding schedule of events, and golf information for the upcoming season. As we go through the Scottsdale Private Golf Courses  program where we are not overseeding the greens this fall, the most significant impact you can make is fixing ball marks properly, which your professional staff can help you with. When we are fixing the ball mark at Scottsdale Private Golf Courses, it is critical that we pinch the green turf together so that when we are finished repairing it, there is no dirt showing in the center. Please do not put the divot tool in and pull the dent up from the bottom . It has long been reported a ball mark not repaired properly will take 3 weeks to heal versus one day when fixed properly. This is a responsibility all share not only here but at all Scottsdale Private Golf Courses.  We appreciate your support.

Dick Hyland presented a plan to the Scottsdale Golf Club Committee with an estimate and color rendering of the Scottsdale Golf Club Practice Park Renovation from his wish list that he spoke about in the last Trails End newsletter.

The components were the following:

• A 6000 sq. ft. putting only green in the desert area behind the west cart staging area;

• A Scottsdale Golf Club mini performance, fitting, instruction building on the currnt instruction tee;

• The existing south end short game area will be reworked in its current location for chipping, pitching and bunder practice;

• East of the south practice tee would be an Scottsdale Golf Club 18 hole putting course;

• On the outer edges of the entire range would be either a Scottsdale Golf Club 9-hole pitch and putt course for junior and family practice and fun at designated times when full practice is limited;

• The north end practice tees will be leveled and connected for more practice stations;

• The north end short game area will be expanded;

• The Committee acknowledged we should look into time, space and fun for kids, families and competitions during events. The architect who drew these thoughts indicated he has never seen or done a practice area as complete as this would be. Discussions will continue, but Dick’s thinking is to start on the practice areas first before any course adjustments would commence in the future.
